[By Zou Ying Campinas, Special Correspondent of South American Overseas Chinese Newspaper] On December 15 and 16, Consul General Yu Peng, Counselor Bai Chunhui, Consul Zhuang Su, Vice Consul Tao Yujie, Vice Consul Zhang Shuang and their entourage in Sao Paulo visited the city of Campinas and attended the opening ceremony of the Electricity Research and Development Centre of BYD Brasil, visited the University of Campinas and its Confucius Institute, as well as visited the local Chinese-funded enterprises.
At the University of Campinas, Yu Peng, together with Rector Antonio Joséde Almeida Meirelles, Vice Rector João Romano, Director of International Affairs Osvaldir Taranto, Dean of the Faculty of Economics Celio Hiratuka, professors of various fields of study such as economic, social and philosophical studies in China and Brazil, President of Xamano Group, Mr. Wang Wei, Chinese and foreign partners of the Confucius Institute, and Mr. Li Tie, General Manager of BYD Brazil, inaugurated the R&D Centre. Antonio Joséde Almeida Meirelles warmly welcomed the arrival of the Consulate General, introduced to Yu Peng the participating professors of China-Pakistan relations, and expressed his hope to further strengthen the cooperation between the University of Cambridge and China, especially in science and technology innovation. Yu Peng said that science and technology is a very important part of the strengthened cooperation between China and Pakistan, followed by economic aspects, and that universities can better transform and apply academic research and results. Next year is an important year for China-Pakistan relations, and both sides can actively explore deepening cooperation in many fields. Wang Wei said that the establishment of the medical centre in Can University has been more than a year, relying on the advantages of the University, to bring China’s advanced medical, renewable energy & hydrogen technology to Brazil, has completed the cooperation of rapid diagnosis of infectious diseases, the next step to continue to carry out the diabetes treatment technology to promote the future will also be the introduction of the treatment of cancer, such as the genetic approach. Gao Qinxiang, the Chinese director of the Confucius Institute, thanked the university and the Consulate General for their continuous support to the work of the Confucius Institute. Next year will also be an important year for the Confucius Institute, as the agreement to establish a Confucius Institute in cooperation with the University of Campinas was signed in July 2014 in the presence of then President Rousseff and President Xi Jinping, and next year will mark the 10th anniversary. The Confucius Institute will also continue to promote Chinese language education and deepen the friendship between China and Brazil through the bridge of language. The participating professors also introduced their respective research related to China and hoped for further cooperation to deepen the research results.
At CZC Brazil, Mr Ni Yajun, General Manager of CZC Brazil, introduced the company’s development history, its main business, and the opportunities and challenges of the company in Brazil, and accompanied Yu Peng and his entourage on a tour of the plant.
